Jane Walker
A brief autobiography
I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1985 with a BFA in
Illustration. I have worked as an artist and free-lance illustrator since
1986, and in 1998 discovered the fascinating world of hot-glass work. I now
have my own web site where I display and sell my art glass marbles and glass
miniatures as well as prints of some of my illustrations.
My favorite illustration subjects are fantasy and science fiction, and
I have taken that love to my glass work by making marbles with dragons in
them. My usual illustration medium is scratchboard although I also work in
acrylics. Many people like my cat portraits which comprise a substantial
portion of my commissions. I used acrylics for my "Supernova"
illustrations, and I really enjoyed painting in a small format (8"x8").
I met John Montrie (a.k.a. Chort) in 1986 through my interest in
historical re-enacting, and he became something of a patron - commissioning
artwork, introducing me to many other people, and even feeding me (sushi!)
when times were lean. Consequently, when he asked if I would be willing to
do some art for his game with no guarantee of any financial return, I said,
"sure, sounds like fun."
Anyone interested in seeing some of my other published work should
look up Aliens of Earth by Nancy Kress, publ. 1993 by Arkham House and Daily
Life in the Middle Ages by Paul B. Newman, publ. 2001 by McFarland and Co.
