   Insomniac
My favorite new show on Comedy Central is Insomniac, in which
comedian Dave Attell stays up all night, each time in a different
city, just wandering around (with a cameraman) looking for spontaneous
fun in the wee small hours on the night. He meets quite a parade
of wacky late night characters, and shows us what various places
around town are like when most of the world is sleeping. As one
who routinely stays up until dawn, this is my kind of show.

                | | A Wedding, a War, and an Ear
                  Infection | |
          | It's
been an uneven week for us. We had a good weekend... I had a
great time at my 20 year high school reunion, after which I drove
through the night to be with Kristin and Alison at the wedding
of Suzyn and Alvaro in New York
City. Alison was a bridesmaid, having first met Suzyn back in
college, as was Petra, who unfortunately is totally blocked by
Suzyn in this picture I took at the ceremony, which was held
in Central Park. (It was hard for me to get very close, and I'm
still learning to use this new camera I just got.) It was a lovely
wedding... best wishes to you Suzyn and Alvaro! |
          | Here's
another picture I took at the wedding, on the way down the street
to the reception hall, of Alison clowning around with her bouquet.
Since Alison works in a flower shop, she was drafted at the last
minute to help with the flower arrangements... aren't they lovely?
Unfortunately, right after returning from New York, Kristin
came down with an incapacitatingly painful ear infection. As
if such a thing weren't bad enough, her doctor misdiagnosed her
outer ear infection as an inner ear infection, which means the
medications he'd prescribed didn't help at all. Finally, late
last night, when the pain got worse instead of better, we took
her to the emergency room where she was re-diagnosed and given
several new drugs to try. She's continuing to suffer greatly,
but I think she's finally turned the corner. Hopefully she'll
be back on her feet soon.

          | Plus
of course, we started bombing Afghanistan this week. While most
of the nation seems gung ho about this, we just find the whole
thing terribly depressing. Ironically, I was visiting the Imagine
circle (a John Lennon memorial in the park near the site of his
murder) just as we were beginning our bombing campaign.
    Have
            a great fall!

                | | Judy's surgery went very well and she seems to
be on track for a speedy recovery. It'll be awhile before they
can be sure that they got the whole tumor, but they are quite
optimistic and everything seems to be going as well as can be
                  expected under the circumstances. |
                | | Ikea has started building a new store, just up
the street from us! (Ikea is totally our favorite furniture store,
but currently we have to drive for an hour to get to one.) |
                | | There are times when it's actually frustrating
for a TV show *not* to have a commercial break for a really long
time. (Similarly, there are times when I'd really like to be
stopped by a red light, which of course is when the lights all
                  turn green.) | | |
