"Now, since you've taken
it," I say, temporarily putting the red 2-point Icehouse
piece in John Marketon's stash, "you can play it any way
you want. So you can play it out like this." I place the
piece upright on the bar.

Lord of the Rings:
The Fellowship of the Ring
Even though it's been over 20 years since I read the books,
I can still remember the stuff they left out and/or changed for
this movie. But I'm not one of those purists who was upset by
such changes... on the contrary, I thought this adaptation was
quite magnificent, incredible even. (And for those in the know,
just think of those missing adventures with Tom Bombadil and
the Barrow-wights as being like a reward for those who go to
the trouble of reading the original text.)

Geronimo Inquirer #6 Has Shipped! |
|
No
time to write much of an article this week... we're about to
rush off to Toy Fair and we still have a ton of packing and prep
work ahead of us. But I'm very pleased to report that this year's
issue of the Geronimo
Inquirer is finally in the mail! This being our version of
an annual holiday newsletter, it was supposed to go out in December,
and it's dated January... now it's February, and I'm really glad
these are finally on their way. (It was delayed by all sorts
of things, not the least of which is our new database software,
which we're still building -- Kristin had to generate most of
the mailing labels using the old system, which was a painful
but necessary backstep.)
Anyway, with that I shall leave you with a couple of pretty
pictures. The first is of a lovely arrangement of flowers Alison
made for us this week, and the second is our current favorite
photo of the pyramids, which I took for a full-page ad we're
getting in the Origins Pre-Registration book (which we hastily
threw together earlier this week).

There will be no update next week, due to Toy Fair.

I'm digging the fact that every 13 months for
the next ten years we will have a date that looks like this past
Saturday's: 2/2/2. Do you think the Fundamentalist Christians
will freak out in four years, when we get to 6/6/6? (It will
be a Tuesday, in case you were wondering.) |

"I'm their dentist!" -- he's actually our dentist's associate, but he
was very excited to overhear a store clerk in a magic store in
California pitching Fluxx as a really great game (apparently
the clerk wasn't impressed) |
