Some viewing advice:
don't waste your time wondering
what the title means.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Picture if you will: a milk shake with hands, a hovering carton
of french fries with telekinetic powers, and a shape-shifting
ball of meat. Their names: Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad.
Together, they fight crime. Well, sort of. Mostly, they just
hang out in their neighbor Carl's swimming pool. What am I talking
about? Only the most bizarre and hilarious cartoon show I've
encountered since Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. (You'll find them
both on Cartoon Network, filed under "Adult Swim.")

- "We found out about Fluxx when my son played it with
friends in the high school marching band while they sat in the
bleachers during football games waiting to perform. He came home
raving about what fun Fluxx was. His friend who brought Fluxx
had learned about it from another student in a summer math camp
for girls." -- June, of Lincoln Nebraska,

National Alison Day and Origins:
The Game |
|
March
30th was Alison's 30th birthday, and we celebrated by taking
the day off to relax and hang out at home, doing whatever we
felt like doing. Kristin declared it an official Looney Labs
holiday (she didn't even read her email all day!) and Petra later
dubbed it National Alison Day. The weather was spectacular --
a perfect spring day -- so we rolled a carpet out on our deck
and spent most of the afternoon out there, lazily playing Volcano
on the cool new stained glass board Gina made for us. It was
a fine day.
But
except for National Alison Day, we've just been working our butts
off as usual. With April 15th looming, Kristin has had heaps
of work to do in getting the books up to date so she could hand
everything over to our new accountant, Jon
Mayo, and she's *very* pleased to say she got the job done!
(And by the way, Mayo is great... if you are looking for an accountant,
Kristin highly recommends him!)

Flying Buffalo (the folks who publish the classic
card game Nuclear War) is planning to release a new card game
at Origins, called Origins: The Game. It'll be a CCG about the
gaming industry, with cards featuring Games, Companies that publish
games, and People who design games. Packs of these cards will
be handed out to everyone at Origins, where the convention attendees
can trade cards and play the game with everyone else in attendance.
To make it all work of course, the game must be filled with cards
featuring the products, designers, and corporate info for lots
of real games, and we couldn't resist buying in for a trio of
cards:
|
Check the Flying Buffalo website for more info on Origins:
The Game, including the rules and a sample card showing the
overall border these elements will be dropped into.
By the way, you'll notice we decided to use the catchphrase
"That Hippie Game Company" on the Looney Labs card.
We've been trying to settle on a corporate slogan we like for
years, and this is the best one we've been able to come up with
so far. We're trying it out for the first time on this project;
we'll see how it does at Origins.
Lastly,
here you see our busted old Battlezone machine being hauled away
by Charles & Company,
our arcade machine repair specialists. It was sad to see this
old classic go, but getting rid of it meant that we could re-arrange
our remaining arcade machines in a way we're really pleased with,
and anyway, we have too much stuff and sometimes we just have
to get rid of things (particularly when they don't even work).
But the good news is, we're keeping the Pac-Man and Qix machines,
even though they don't work right now either, since we are planning
to fix them some day (when we have disposable income again).

"Rarely in the history of wars have so many
achieved so little at such a high cost."

I'd love to visit the alternate universe where
the Beatles really did make a movie
based on the Lord of the Rings. With Paul and Ringo playing Frodo
and Sam, George being Gandalf, and John as Gollum, that really
would have been something. (But I can't say I blame Tolkien for
saying no...) |

I hate the Discovery-Health cable network. I
call it the surgery channel. No matter how briefly I glimpse
it on my way up or down the line, I always seem to catch an eyeful
of someone being operated on, up close. Yuk! |
