- "While camping in Wyoming last week, I taught IceTowers
to my niece and nephew, ages 5 and 7, my 13-year-old son, and
a nine-year-old random kid from the campsite next to ours. They
LOVED it, especially after the youngest finally understood the
rules." -- Alan A., on the Icehouse mailing list

The Store Displays Have Been
Printed! |
|
This
week we are very pleased to report that, after many false starts,
redesigns, and changes of plans, the colorful cardboard "point-of-purchase"
display tray we've been developing has finally been printed!
Here you see Kristin and Stu Clark (the Tim-Bar
sales guy who hooked us up with this printer) just after the
very first one was die-cut and assembled. Isn't it beautiful?
We're extremely pleased with how they turned out and we're really
excited about finally getting
these things out onto game store shelves. We're certain they
will make a big difference in getting consumers to take a look
at our entire product line. Expect to see one soon in a game
store near you! |
Here's
another picture from our plant tour of Oxford
Innovations... all those stacks next to Bob the Production
Manager are printed cardboard sheets waiting to be fed into the
die-cutting machine. From here, the next step will be to ship
them down to ROI,
our assembly contractors, where they'll be put together and shipped
on to ACMS,
our fulfillment house, who'll ship them out to stores as they
order them. Thanks once again to everyone at all of the companies
that help us work our magic! |
Also this week, Alison
and I went with
Kristin and
Gina to help
them celebrate their birthdays with the traditional day of roller coaster
thrills. This year, we went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, home
of Apollo's Chariot, Alpengeist, The Loch Ness Monster, and the
Big Bad Wolf, four of my favorite coasters, at one of my very
favorite theme parks. Needless to say, it was a great day.
Here are a few pictures I took during a ride on Alpengeist.
(Actually, these are frame-grabs from a little quick-time movie
I made with my really great little digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix
775. For awhile now I've been making little 10-second silent
movies... someday when we have more disk space available, I'll
start putting these little movies up for download.)
Also, here are some pictures of Gina having fun with one of
the lorikeets you can visit in an aviary there:

At first I felt ripped off by the so-called "new
country" at Busch Gardens... "Ireland" isn't the
totally new place I was expecting, but instead just a re-theming
of an area once known as "Hastings." But although I
felt mislead, I like the changes quite a bit. It's a nice improvement. |
|
The best new theme-park innovation I've seen
in years is the "single-rider lane" they've added to
the line for Apollo's Chariot. It allows singleton riders (or
groups willing to divide up) to board immediately by filling
in otherwise unfilled seats on the coaster. But when the lane
was closed (as it often was) it became very aggravating having
to wait, watching trains roll out with empty seats - particularly
when they were in the front! |

"Voice or no voice, the people can always
be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you
have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce
the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country
to danger. It works the same in any country."
