The twins stood on the subway platform of the Iceland Street station, waiting to be met there by Bert and Dave. They were bored. To pass the time, they began a survey of the structural integrity of the subway station. They walked about the tunnel, marking on their clipboards and discussing in serious and concerned tones the various facts which they observed. They noted and discussed cracks in the walls, and unevenness in the floors, and rust on the steel columns that supported the roof. They shook their heads slowly as they regarded the various degrees of deterioration in the structure. Peter discovered that he had a tape measure with him, so they spent a lot of time measuring cracks and marking down their sizes and locations.
All of this had a rather disturbing effect on the other people waiting in the station, and on the people who emerged from arriving trains. One got the impression from watching Peter and Paul that the whole tunnel was in imminent danger of collapse.
At 1:55 AM, Bert and Dave arrived, with the gift-wrapped bomb in tow.
The Four climbed the stairs out of the subway and into the cool, dark night.
