I first became interested in writing when I was in college. I took a writing class with Mrs. Betty Townsend, and I read Donald Barthelme's wonderful, bizarre anti-stories, and I decided I wanted to be a writer. The next semester, I wised up and went into Computer Science instead, since I decided I wanted to make money more than I wanted to be a starving writer. But I wrote stories in my free time, figuring someday maybe I could retire and write without needing to make money at it.
Over the years, most of what I've written has been unpublished. I'm an inventor, not a salesman. I'm not interested in doing the effort required to actually get my stuff published, I prefer simply to write it and move on to the next project.
During the Desktop Publishing revolution of the early 90's, I published a lot of my writings myself, under the guise of a non-existent company called Empire Publications, in print runs of like 100 copies, which I gave out as Xmas presents. My novel was published in similar fashion and print volume by Icehouse Games, but that's about as much exposure as my material has up until now.
However, just as the Desktop Publishing revolution was building up steam, the web came along and rendered it pointless. Now, every monkey and his uncle can publish whatever they feel like, for the benefit of anyone who cares to look at it (well, anyone with a computer, anyway). And since I'm an uncle, I'm putting my own body of work out here on the web, in case anyone wants to look at it.
